About me

Kia ora & Prego!

I'm Jo Cullen, wife, mother, dance teacher, travel enthusiast and artist!  I am extremely fortunate to live in the beautiful seaside town of Whangamata, New Zealand.

Our gorgeous beaches and coastline are world famous and if you've never been, you should definitely visit!

My passion for art has been with me for as long as I can remember, excelling at school from a young age, and 'art' being my absolute favourite subject throughout my high school years!

Life happens... work, travel, husband and children. Blessed to have had the aforementioned, but there was not a lot of time for anything else!

Now my 2 children are grown, the succession of my dance studio is complete, a supportive husband encouraging me to invest my time into my art, and here I am today. I now actually have the time to indulge my passion for making art and developing my technique further.

I am mainly self taught, but have also attended art workshops in France, New Zealand and most recently in Italy, learning new skills to incorporate into my work at home.

I take inspiration from the outdoors, both in New Zealand and Europe - mainly Italy where I have spent quality time in recent years.

Painting abroad is such a treat, living la dolce vita, all the while satisfying the creative palette!

I enjoy incorporating texture and movement to canvas, using acrylic layers and wash to create interest and depth to my work.

My pieces are abstract to semi abstract in usually a large format, however I am currently working on some slightly smaller works.

I love to travel, discovering new places, meeting new people and hearing their stories, experiencing new culture, and making memories.

I look forward to continuing my painting and creative journey.

Thank you for taking the time to view my work.
